Learn How to Hollow Out Your 3D Prints and Save on Resin

-Matt Grisham

There is a simple way of saving money on your 3d prints and it only takes a couple extra steps. FDM printers, which most people are familiar with are much different than the newer SLA printers that use resin. In FDM 3D printing, the printer lays down different layers of a molten material, which it pushes through its heated nozzle.

This allows the printer to make infill in models to reduce the amount of material that is used in creating it.

In SLA printing the printer does not utilize infill and instead would automatically make the model solid. This can cause large issues when printing as it uses a ton of resin, which in turn raises your overall printing cost.

The SLA printers big advantage over FDM printing is you have the ability to hollow out a model for printing. This will not only reduce the amount of resin that you use in the printing process, but also save you time overall in your modeling process.

In this video we will show you how to hollow out an already created model and get it ready for printing on your SLA printer.

We are using a Anycubic Photon Printer (You can purchase your own Anycubic Printer here https://amzn.to/2UDHQV4) though this same process will work for any SLA printer.
